Stick with me on this one…
If I want to get my cavity filled, I don’t go to my chiropractor. If I want to get the kinks out of my back, I don’t go to my dentist.
If I need help birthing a baby, I don’t go to Home Depot. If I need lumber, I’m don’t go to the hospital.
If I want chocloate (which has happened a time or two…or a lot 
), I don’t go to the automotive store. If I need car wiper blades, I don’t go to the grocery store.
If I went to those places, it would be like trying to get coffee from a pothole. Meaning, good stuff from the wrong source. Two words…EXPECTATION MANAGEMENT.
Knowing where to go and who to get it from are vital keys to maintaining this emotional eating recovery…not to mention spiritual and physical health too! God revealed that I went to the wrong sources to get the good stuff. The Holy Spirit is guiding me to the correct source. Let me show you what I mean…
If I want to share some deep emotional hurts, I don’t call my steam roller friend who dominates the conversation, I call my fair-share friend, who listens and talks.
If I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to work out, I don’t call my couch potato friend, because somehow I’ll realize I don’t need to work out that day. Instead, I call my faithful work out friend, who reminds me how I’ll feel after the work out!
If I want help with boundaries, I don’t call my people-pleaser friend, cause she’ll help me negotiate being stuck. I’ll call my friend who is actively pursuing healthy boundaries.
If I need help, I don’t call my self-centered friend, because I won’t get help. I’ll just wind up helping her and frustrating myself. Instead, I call my balanced friend, who lives life with margin, and has an overflow to help, at least normally she does!
If I’m feeling low, I don’t call my chronically negative friend; I call my funny friend, to crack up!
If I want to work through some old hurts, I don’t go to the new friend who tells me what I want to hear. Instead, I go to the honest friend, who has logged miles with me, who cares, shares and helps!
I love coffee…some days a little too much (is four cups too much?)! I also love God and on that one you can never get too much! Going to the correct source for the good stuff is what a spiritually rich life is all about!

Usually it starts off with quiet time with The Source, God. Then, He directs me to the appropriate human sources. Consistently, when I don’t turn to God first, I usually end up frustrated because I get icky, dirty pothole water, instead of “coffee”. As I am learning to identify the coffee sources, I am experiencing deeper levels of God’s provision and love!
God gave me friends as a love gift and I have a deep desire to bless my gifts too!

When I think I want to act “bad to the bones” around the high fiber cereal, shredded mini wheat….I know who to call! Or when I want to think that running a marathon is easy….I know who to call! Or when I need to crack up….I know who to call!!

…and when I’m in danger of mortally wounding someone with a sharp object or getting in the car and just driving away from my husband and kids to somewhere I think will be more peaceful like Alaska or Mexico or South Riding Virginia
