The Encouraged In Heart blog is all about the things most important to author Steph Fink…faith, family, finances, fitness, food, friendship and funnies.

Who is Steph Fink?
I’m a former cop turned freelance writer, blogger and inspirational speaker. I started this blog in January 2008 about my emotional eating addiction. Each week I wrote about my weigh-in and the lesson (“nugget”) that I learned in the days prior. It was in the process of losing weight that I learned my purpose and passion which is to encourage women with practical principles to live purposeful and powerful lives! I’ve since expanded my writing topics and am delighted to now be a published author and inspirational speaker.
In July 2002, God opened my eyes that true health involved lifestyle choices with my mind, body and spirit. You see, I carried unresolved emotional weight which translated to physical weight. After a lifetime of emotional eating, I was obese. I didn’t know that God wanted to be involved, even in my eating, emotions and life. God helped me face my emotions and over the course of eight years, I slowly lost and kept off 65 pounds.
My hair color and pants sizes have changed many times through the years, but the one thing that’s not changed is God’s love for me (you too!). He loved me at 207 pounds and He loves me today at 142 pounds! The only difference is that I’m healthier and happier to enjoy His love!
You’ll find that I often write in stream of consciousness, with far too frequent references to Lucy (my scale, who was once called Lucifer) and my sexy minivan…but hey, what can I say, that’s just how I roll! ![]()

I met and married my best friend, Dave, whom is affecionately called “the Finkster”. We’re both proud Armed Forces veterans hailing from different cultures…well, that’s only sorta true. Dave’s a West Virginia boy that married a crazy Jersey girl (no, I won’t tell you what exit!) and needless to say due to the co-mingling of our genetics, we need you to pray for our kids! ![]()

(See what I mean?)
Well, that’s almost the whole fam. Just one more family member to introduce, Jayson. We adopted Jayson years ago, back when the Finkster and I were stationed in Oklahoma. Jayson’s mother is still alive and also a friend of mine, so that’s the only reason I write, “adopted”. It’s not legal but is certainly permanent and I pity the fool that messes with any of my kids (how’s that for an encouraging Christian-like comment?)

So that’s my fam and my story, and I’m sticking to it! ![]()
I hope your heart is encouraged today!

“My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ.” Colossians 2:25

thank you for your unending encouragement. God knew I needed you.
We need each other!
All the best, Steph! I’m so proud of you. I was just telling my family a story about you during our freshman year in college–when you fell asleep on the train, missed the UD stop and ended up in Maryland! You would always make the us laugh and were a comfort during our Kent Hall days. I’m so blessed to have a friend like you. Love you! XOX Chele
CHELE!!!! (you know how I like to say it!)
Your comment brought the biggest smile to my face as being around you has that effect on me! Do you remeber Dani that night when I didn’t come off the train calling campus security (like they were going to do anything – holy cow – TOO funny!). Thanks for your words. love and friendship! You made freshman year college super special with memories by your sweet ways, contagious laugh and hysterical sense of humor! Was SO wonderful seeing you at Sage’s wedding. I’m so grateful for the tender heart you have!
Thanks for brightening my day today! Love you Chele!
Looking faaaaabulous, darling!
