Do you think that you’re at the point where you want help and don’t know where to start? A reality God showed me was this: A strong person admits when they need help, a weak person stays the same (aka: denial).
My eating addiction recovery has been long and required many steps. I wanted to post some ideas for you to pray about and to consider for your “next step”:
Pray for God to reveal a trusted friend or counselor that you can share your heart with. My accountability/prayer partner, Nancy, consistently listens, prays and lifts me up when I relapse in recovery and celebrates when I’m progressing. It was a great first step to admit I needed help and then to share it with someone else…took some weight off my shoulders.
New Life Ministries is incredible! From resources to conferences to a powerful online community there’s something for everyone. You can call then at 1-800-NEW-LIFE to get help.

With God ALL things are possible. By myself, only a few things are possible.
One of the most powerful tools God used in my life, to begin the recovery process, was a resource from New Life Ministry, the Lose It For Life series by Stephen Arterburn and Linda Mintle. I first did the book and workbook all by myself. As the book challenged me to connect to others, I did just that. God led me to facilitate a Lose It For Life group because united, we’re stronger! I continue to read the Lose It For Life devotional almost daily, it’s such a great reality check and encouragement!
Recently, New Life Ministry gifted me The Life Recovery Devotional. This devotional isn’t just for emotional eating recovery, it’s for anyone captivated by something more than God. It’s helping me stay in recovery and comforts me with God’s love when I’ve stumbled.

New Life Ministries also has something called New Life Weekend. I’ve not attended, but have had friends that have and they’ve said it changed their lives. It’s an intensive weekend that helps jump-start your healing while connecting you to others in the journey too.
I lost 70 pounds but could only keep 60 of them off. So, in 2010, I joined Weight Watchers. I needed help and encouragement in my relationship to healthy food portions. Exercise isn’t a big deal for me to do, but eating past my hunger level has always been a life long struggle for me. The closer I got to my goal weight, the more every morsel I put into my mouth counted. Click on this link to find a meeting close to you.
Another idea is Celebrate Recovery. This is a free support group and they are located all over the U.S and the world to connect and heal.
No matter what, just refuse to do life alone. Sure, there are parts of the journey that are meant to be traveled with just you and God, but the majority is to be shared with fellow journeyers!
If you ever wanted to pray together, you can count on me for that too!
If you’ve experienced other avenues of support, I’d LOVE it if you’d post a comment here so others can be encouraged too!

I have just recently read the books “Victory Over the Darkness” and “The Bondage Breaker” by Neil Anderson. They show you who you are in Christ and explain the reality of spiritual warfar. Very life changing!
This is so funny, because I ALMOST called you this AM to help me with Patrick, I was nursing and he was dirty- figures right?
Not the kind of help you’re referring to, but help none the less!
I’m home and calling now Jenn!!! I SO know those days!
