Overwhelmingly encouraged by girlfriends…(that are much smarter than me!)

Uncertain about the process…

And, hesitantly I entered.

I’m excited to report that I just completely my first trial month of the The Grocery Game at http:www.thegrocerygame.com

I am proud to report that this past first month, I stocked up on some non-perishable groceries and saved about 12% off our monthly food/household budget.

And, this month is looking pretty good too!  Since I have a compulsion to share my economic victories, here I go…

CVS:

Spent: $45.41

Saved: $63.79

Harris Teeter:

Spent: $136.16

Saved: $94.93

Giant:

Spent: $43.55

Saved: $32.89

TOTAL:

Spent: $225.12

Saved: $91.55

So far, I’m saving about 29%.  And according to my www.grocerygame.com coach, Jenn, she said most don’t start saving until after the 3rd month (because you’re building your stockpile up!)…which encouraged my heart even more!

So I’m dying to know, how is your “game” looking in the grocery game and family budget savings??? Smile

Yesterday, I wrote about my love of the diva suit, rewards and getting a reward of a diva suit in three small ounces.  And today, I’m quite thrilled to report that this morning, Lucy told me to go and get that diva suit! WOO-HOO!!!  I was in a plateau since April (that’s FIVE months sister!) and this week I’ve finally busted through!

Keeping with the former “Finance Friday” tradition at the Encouraged in Heart blog, I’m also very excited to report about another reward that’s coming our way today.  Two rewards in one day…pinch me, would ya?!?

Dave and I have hit three large financial goals.  As we perused our financial road map, the Finkster omitted one small detail in our budgeting …rewards.  And I do love me some rewards!  It actually stated,  on the financial road map that we follow (Crown Financial), to make sure we reward ourselves after hitting each goal milestone.  Since we’ve never rewarded ourselves before and our next goal is to have our home mortgage paid (so it’ll be a L-O-N-G while…), we thought long and hard…

Cricket, cricket…

And finally came up with our idea!  Our old kitchen table was 15 years old and the chairs had been reupholstered three times by my powerful staple gun (can I get a grunt sisters?!).  Here’s our reward to be delivered later today:

Kitchen table

(No this is not our actual kitchen.  Carpet under any table that the Fink fam eats at is just a bad idea.  And, I’m not just talking about the kids here!)

Dave’s done such an amazing job getting our family finances lined up to God’s plan and he’s shared so much of that with you – I wanted to remind you, to plan to reward yourself after achieving each milestone!

I pray you don’t think I’m bragging about “us” with getting a rewards but I do pray you see what I’m really doing…bragging about our REALLY big God that took us, turned us around and put us in fiscal health and after seven years, we’ve able to celebrate with a beautiful reward that our family and friends will all enjoy (the kitchen is always the hangout place!).

Do you  have finance rewards in place and if so what are they? As you know, we’re sort of new to this and would love to read your ideas!

www.thegrocerygame.com

Does this website evoke any version of emotions out of you?!?

I thought I was so funny when I typed under my Facebook profile under my current “Activities”, “repeating myself many times, repeating myself many times, repeating myself many times.” Well it appears I’m not the only one repeating myself many times…my friends have been too!

About two months ago, my friend and neighbor Jenn told me about www.thegrocerygame.com. I thought, “That’s cool…you go girl…it’s not for me.”

About a month ago, my friend Jen told me about www.thegrocerygame.com. I thought, “That’s odd…same website Jenn told me about – SO awesome I have friends that care to stretch their family dinero.”

Yesterday at the pool, my friend Jen (a different Jen – I guess there weren’t a lot of creative parents when we were born) told me all about this cool website: www.thegrocerygame.com. She went to a class, got a binder and is organizing her coupons and going for it. She said her friend/instructor said that her family of four has a monthly food budget of $150 a MONTH!

That got my attention.

I’m tell ya right now if I can get my family budget down to even $200 a month, I will willingly do, video tape and post to this blog, yours truly doing the running man in any participating www.thegrocerygame.com vendors. I’ll do it. Others won’t want to see it, but I’ll do it.

Then today, my friend Val told me about www.thegrocerygame.com. So after three hours of water logging the kids in the sun at her pool, we ice-popped the weary troops and got to business!

(The Fink boys are just two…yes Val and her husband took seriously God’s command in Genesis 9:7 – “As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it.”) Grin

She pulled out her binder, pulled out the notes from her class and filled me in on the scoop.

Here are some of the fiscally savvy websites that Val shared with me today:
www.moneysavingmom.com
www.dealseakingmom.com
www.hotcouponworld.com
www.woot.com (One big deal a day – shipped for $5)
www.southersavers.com (NOVA shoppers only)
www.frugalinvirginia.com (NOVA shoppers only)

Could there by something to this whole www.thegrocerygame.com or what? Sisters, can I get a witness?!?!
