So the Fink Fam is getting less pathetic…really. No, really.

Since this past summer, we collectively undertook not just any challenge, but the pathetic challenge. We did finally meet our goal of three whole entire days not saying “the word.”

And the birds again chirped, the sun shone a tad brighter and life on earth, was well.

Then the boys entered a phase of keen self body awareness, parts identification and products produced from the parts and to date, there are no indicators that we are leaving this phase any time soon…

I’m one of those moms that refuse to call body parts weird names because I don’t want my boys to grow up embarrassed of their body or have body issues. No, rest assured, they’ll have plenty of other “issues” to sort out once they fly this crazy birds coup, but prayerfully, body issues won’t be one em’.

The list of inappropriate words (butt, bugger, boob, penis, poop, pee, toot) at the table has expanded and so has the fee. Now, when one of “the words” is spoken, a .25 cents donatation is made to the Gladware container. Well, not before one of us declares, “Cha-ching” that triggers the donation.

But what do we do with the collected?

Oh, we came up with plenty of ideas…just not one we could all agree on. The giver that I am, I offered that it become the “Mommy’s coffee fund” and believed it was a reasonable enough idea, since I’ve donated the largest portion of the proceeds and all…

And the family vote was a 3 out of 4 vote…”No.”

Sheesh…men.

FINALLY, and by a Fink unanimous vote, we figured out what we wanted to do with our collected loot. We donated it to our church, specifically to Haiti relief.

I’m standing firm that this one small donation makes us less pathetic. I have absolutely nothing else to base this theory on, so please understand, I need to grasp at what ever strand presents itself!

While our table manners still remain in question, our pathetic-ness is becoming just…a tad less pathetic.

Which leads me to a serious question, would you consider helping the people of Haiti too?

Here are three ways you can help the people of Haiti:

1. Donate your money.
Our church, Christian Fellowship Church is ensuring 100% of funds received will be used to purchase food for Haiti. Our church partnered with Stop Hunger Now to send 142,000 meal packs containing fortified rice and vegetables to Haiti. In order to fulfill our commitment we need to raise $35,640 by the February 10 deadline. That is ONLY 25 cents per meal! Checks should be made out to Christian Fellowship Church; in memo mark, “Stop Hunger Now;” 100% of funds received will provide food to Haiti. You can visit or mail your check to CFC 21673 Beaumeade Circle Ashburn, VA 20147. And, you’ll get a tax deduction form at the end of the year too!

2. Donate your service. On Thursday, 11 Feb, from 9-11am, some friends, Cal and I are sorting food that will be sent to Haiti. Currently, all slots are full (what a GREAT problem to have!) – but if interested and would like to be put on the waiting list, sign up. If an opening occurs, our church will contact you! We’ll be sorting 142,000 meals in one day!

3. Donate your time. Pray right where you are.

While we can’t do everything, we can do a small something…and a whole lotta small somethings (make us less pathetic…Wink AND, add up to a very big blessing! Smile What are some ways that you are reaching the people of Haiti?
